Barbara Redmond is the CEO and visionary leader of Improving Lives, overseeing the organization’s strategy, growth, and initiatives to combat injustice. Her unwavering dedication to fostering fairness and driving positive change inspires the entire team and the community we serve.
A native of Allentown, Barbara graduated from Cedar Crest College with a B.S. in Business and a minor in Economics, followed by an MBA in Business Administration. Her dedication to her alma mater is evident through her seven years of service on the Cedar Crest College Alumnae Board.
Barbara has actively engaged in her community, serving as a State Committeeperson for Lehigh County’s Southeast Caucus. She has also been a PA Notary Public for the past 20 years and was elected as the South Whitehall precinct leader for the Democratic Party. She advocates for local issues and represents the voices of her constituents.
With decades of experience at PPL, Barbara brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role as CEO of Improving Lives. Her passion for social justice and community engagement continues to drive the organization's mission, making a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Karen Ocasio serves as the Business Director at Improving Lives, where she expertly oversees the organization’s operations, manages finances and resources, and supports initiatives that promote equality and justice. Her strategic approach ensures that the organization runs efficiently and effectively, furthering its mission.
Karen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cedar Crest College, graduating in May 2020. She also has a Master’s in Professional Studies with a specialization in Human Resources, along with certifications in Human Resources, Employment and Labor Law, and Employee Relations.
Her background in human resources and business management equips her with the necessary skills to foster a positive work environment and advocate for fair practices within the organization. Karen's commitment to promoting equality and justice is evident in her work, significantly impacting the lives of those we serve.
Elaine Redmond is the Director of Affairs at Improving Lives, where she oversees organizational affairs and develops partnerships that strengthen our capacity to effectively combat discrimination and racism. Her dedication to creating inclusive communities is central to her work.
A native of Allentown, Elaine is a dedicated public servant with a rich history of community involvement. After a successful 30-year career with Western Electric and AT&T, she shifted her focus to the well-being of youth. For over twenty-five years, she has owned and operated a childcare and preschool in Laurys Station, where she nurtures the next generation and provides a safe, supportive environment for children.
Elaine holds an Associate’s Degree and a Director’s Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Lehigh Carbon Community College and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Her passion for children extends beyond her preschool; she has fostered over 30 children throughout the years, showcasing her unwavering commitment to their care and development.
In recognition of her exceptional dedication, Elaine was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by Pinebrook Family Answers in 2003 for her relentless advocacy for children and her commitment to prioritizing their needs. Her work continues to inspire those around her and reinforces the mission of Improving Lives.
As our trusted legal advisor, John provides expert guidance on all legal matters, ensuring that we operate with integrity as we advocate for justice and fairness.
Fran develops and leads national political strategies that help advance our mission of addressing systemic inequities and creating meaningful policy change.
Glenda plays a vital role in keeping our operations organized and efficient, supporting the team as we work to eliminate discrimination and create opportunities for all.
Craig leads our communications efforts, amplifying our message of inclusion and equality while engaging the community through impactful storytelling and outreach.
